Jonina Leosdottir and Johanna Sigurdardottir

Johanna Sigurdardottir, the former Prime Minister of Iceland, served from 2009 to 2013 and holds the distinction of being the world’s first openly LGBT head of state. Her political career spanned decades, as she was a member of parliament from 1978 until her retirement in 2013. Before entering politics, she worked as an air hostess for Icelandic Airlines for nine years and later as an office manager. Sigurdardottir was also actively involved in trade unions, serving on the boards of the Icelandic Cabin Crew Association and the Commercial Workers Union.
In 1983, she met Jonina Leosdottir, a well-known novelist. However, their romantic relationship didn’t begin until 1985. Seven years after becoming a couple, they decided to marry. Together, they have built a happy life and continue to balance their personal lives with professional endeavors.
